Welcome to Just Cook
Just Cook was created in 2009 by Tim Ryan; a passionate food lover and cook, who was underwhelmed and unimpressed by Cookery Schools that offered little experience for a lot of expense. Eager to inspire with simple, honest, home cooking through hands-on cooking within an informal and fun environment, Tim decided to design and set up Just Cook.
Founded in beautiful rural Essex in a lovely Maltings building, near the market town of Saffron Walden, the state-of-the-art kitchen is bright and welcoming to cooks of all abilities, whether novice or a seasoned chef looking for inspiration.
Maxine Quinn took over as Chef and Manager of Just Cook in 2013. From a creative background in the film and animation industry, a career change was pursued to satisfy culinary cravings and inspirations, including cheffing a barge, managing an Italian delicatessen, and private event catering. A family move brought her to the North Essex countryside where her dream of running a cookery school landed in her lap after discovering Just Cook in her village of Newport.
Now the cookery school is thriving with courses for children and adults, the very popular Supper Clubs, and hosting parties & special events with local food producers and inviting guest hosts from specialist foodie fields. The school motto is “Learn to Cook, Love to Cook”, making great food, simply, healthily, and satisfyingly using quality ingredients, supporting local producers and suppliers, venturing into new and exciting dishes that are simply limitless.
